However, in brief, streams are now available in 1080p rather than 720p, audio support is better (some titles are now capable of streaming audio to compatible surround or Dolby Atmos speakers), and there are more titles in the catalog thanks to a partnership with global production studios. Unfortunately, you will not be able to stream live matches on TV because Showmax downgraded the platform by axing Showmax Pro for DStv Stream. You can still watch games, but they are limited to the Premier League and on mobile.
Now, the Showmax 2.0 app is already available on the Google Play Store, which you can install and purchase a subscription that fits your bill. However, if you want to watch on Android or Google TV, the app has yet to appear there. Therefore, you will need other ways to run the application. How to install Showmax 2.0 on Android/Google TV
- Make sure your Android/Google TV is logged into the same Google account as your Android phone.
- Go to Google Play and search for Showmax. The app is named so, whereas the old one is named Showmax 1.0.
- Tap on the app, and you will see a drop-down menu under the ‘Install’ option.
- Under the list, you will see your TV since it is registered to the same Google account in your phone.
- Tap install.
- The app will then be installed on your TV.
- Now go to your TV, and search for Showmax. You will know it because it looks modernized with colours and a modern UI.
- Log in and stream.
Showmax says it is migrating customers to its new platform. We believe that the exercise will be completed before February 2024. From then, customers will be able to enjoy the new platform and all it brings to the table.
