West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC) Group has launched WIOCC Kenya Limited to improve connectivity and infrastructure and support Kenya’s growing telecom market.
WIOCC provides scalable digital infrastructure to ISPs, systems integrators, carriers, MSPs, and other telecoms to enhance network reliability, reach, and efficiency.
WIOCC serves telecoms, cloud operators, content providers, and ISPs across Africa and beyond. It connects over 550 locations in 30 African countries via 75,000 km of terrestrial and 200,000 km of submarine fibre and reaches 100 cities in Europe and over 700 globally.
Founded in 2008 and led by CEO Chris Wood, WIOCC is owned by 14 African telecom operators, including Telkom Kenya and supported by IFC, AfDB, AFD, KfW, and EIB.
It is headquartered in Mauritius and has offices in Nairobi and Johannesburg.
WIOCC’s open-access infrastructure enables clients to meet rising demands for low-latency connectivity.
The completed Mombasa Metro Network interconnects major data centres in Mombasa, allowing clients to scale operations and access high-capacity bandwidth at key locations.
WIOCC is also building a National Long-Distance (NLD) network between Nairobi and Mombasa. A Metro Network in Nairobi is set to be completed by Q4 2024. By Q2 2025, the network will expand to additional counties and border regions.
