M-EPSA super app is the telco’s mobile-money-specific platform that was launched back in 2021. It was the second launch after the announcement of the M-PESA business app, which does the same thing as the M-PESA app, but for businesses.

The M-PESA app has been downloaded over 8 million times since its launch, making it the most downloaded local app.

Being a super app, the app is integrated with a number of mini-apps. Mini apps are services from other businesses, say NHIF or HELB that allow customers to access those services without the need of downloading another app. The M-PESA app has more than 60 mini-apps, with the promise of more such apps in the coming days.

This latest development, which was just announced this week at Safaricom’ss headquarters in Westlands, has seen the announcement of the Bar app by EABL, which will allow customers to purchase drinks with delivery service or reserve a bar setup for parties and make payments using the M-PESA App.

In the same vein, Vivo will offer a loyalty app to customers who refuel at Shell outlets, which will be automatically linked to their M-PESA accounts. This means that when customers pay for fuel using M-PESA, they will earn points on the app based on their payment through M-PESA. These points can be redeemed for specific items and services at Shell outlets.

The M-PESA Super App already hosts over 60 other companies, including government entities and counties, providing various services through their respective apps. Safaricom provides support for hosting, distribution, and marketing to these businesses on the M-PESA Super App.

The launch of The Bar and Shell apps is expected in the coming weeks, further enhancing the convenience and value for the more than 3 million customers on the M-PESA Super App.
