The development is said to help plug a budget deficit of more than KES 1 billion.

After the Immigration department proposed new charges for IDs, their replacement, passports, and other documents associated with the agency, the state is now seeking to increase the charges associated with the transport sector in Kenya. The affected agency is the National Transport and Safety Authority, NTSA, which is proposing to increase charges for its services. The development is said to help plug a budget deficit of more than KES 1 billion. It is not clear when these charges will be implemented, but we believe there will be public participation or an adjustment before they are made official. It would also mean that Kenyans will have to dig deeper into their pockets to access the services.
