Mastercard and Glovo have joined forces to combat hunger and promote education in underserved communities in Kenya and Nigeria.

Mastercard, a global leader in technology and payments, is committed to social responsibility and seeks to empower individuals for inclusive prosperity globally. Teaming up with Glovo, a versatile multi-category app connecting consumers with various services, the focus is on addressing hunger and ensuring school children have access to nutritious meals, creating an environment conducive to learning and development.

To amplify their impact, Mastercard strategically partnered with local charities – Food4Education in Kenya and the Lagos Food Bank Initiative in Nigeria. For each transaction on the Glovo app, Mastercard will contribute to these charities, funding a meal for a child in need. This initiative, unprecedented in East and West Africa, reflects Mastercard’s commitment to sustainable solutions benefiting individuals, the planet, and overall prosperity.

Shehryar Ali, Senior Vice President and Country Manager for East Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands, emphasized the goal of extending the benefits of the digital economy to one billion individuals, promoting inclusivity, social upliftment, and environmental sustainability. The partnership with Glovo exemplifies this commitment by providing nutritious meals to school children, addressing hunger, and enhancing the learning environment.

Caroline Mutuku, General Manager of Kenya at Glovo, highlighted their shared commitment to driving positive change, acknowledging that addressing social challenges requires collective action. The partnership with Mastercard underscores the transformative potential of business collaborations in local communities, inspiring others to embark on similar initiatives.

Beyond providing meals, Mastercard and Glovo aspire to offer hope and joy to children in underserved regions, cultivating a positive environment that enhances their education and overall well-being. This collaboration emphasizes the significance of collective efforts in tackling societal issues, with Mastercard encouraging its cardholders to actively engage in this impactful initiative.
