Financial services corporation Mastercard has partnered with Zanzibar e-Government Agency (eGAZ) to assist in its digital transformation. According to a statement by Mastercard, the move will facilitate various sectors in Zanzibar, including tourism, in transitioning to digital payments for economic growth.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during the launch of Zanzibar Digital Government Strategy 2023-2027, led by President H.E Hussein Ali Mwinyi.
The MoU aligns with Zanzibar’s Digital Economy Blueprint and Roadmap, aiming to transform Zanzibar into a digital economy, enhancing digital systems, technology solutions, and governance.
In the collaboration, Mastercard will offer technical assistance to establish a digital transformation team, work with ZanMalipo payment portal for digital payments, and issue two million government cards for better access to services and tourism.
Mastercard’s solutions include Mastercard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS), allowing diverse payment methods. These efforts support economic development.
The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar aims to create a conducive environment for a pan-African digital economy, fostering innovation, trade, and investment.
The collaboration accelerates Zanzibar’s digital strategy realization, benefiting citizens, according to Said Seif Said, Managing Director of eGAZ.
Zanzibar prioritizes developing secure digital infrastructure for citizens, tourists, and businesses to position itself as a pan-African trade hub, benefiting consumers with an improved digital environment.
