Jumia Food exits market

Jumia has announced a shutdown of its food delivery business in all seven African countries that it operates. This is one of the major steps that Jumia is taking to focus on the expansion of its e-commerce arm.

Citing the adverse macro-economic and tough business environment, the company has decided to close shop and focus on its core operation as an online retail platform. Add to that the fact that the food division is yet to yield any profit since its inception.

Jumia is currently serving various markets in Africa, including Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Ivory Coast. Several employees of the company, who are currently working in the food delivery division in these countries, are moving to its core e-commerce business.
