Right now, no smartphone brand does not have AI features for its line of phones. This is because AI is, and has proved to be the next big thing, the novelty in a business that has remained mostly stale over the last few years. The decision to spice these devices with AI and its associated features can be attributed to the work that OpenAI – an AI corporation backed by Microsoft for its ChatGPT product- has been doing.
Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 series. The devices, as expected, arrived packed to the brim with exciting innovations, one of them being Galaxy AI. However, Galaxy AI was limited to these devices, and users with older phones were curious if Samsung had plans to launch the same feature on past devices.
Now, Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy AI will surely be availed to other devices thanks to the One UI 6.1 update. The following devices will be first in line: the Galaxy S22 and S23 Series, Z Fold 4 and Z Fold 5, Z Flip 4 and Z Flip 5, and Tab S9 and S8 Series.
Galaxy AI features include – but are not limited to – the ability to adjust message tone and translate messages in 13 different languages using Chat Assist, Live Translate, which provides voice and text translations for phone calls. At the same time. with Interpreter, users can also engage in spontaneous conversations with locals while traveling as the split-screen feature generates text translations for live conversations.
“Our aim with Galaxy AI isn’t just to lead a new age of mobile AI; it’s about empowering users worldwide, including those in Kenya, by making AI more accessible,” said Antony Hutia, Head of Mobile Division Samsung Electronics East Africa. “This marks just the inception of Galaxy AI. Our vision continues to extend, reaching over 100 million Galaxy users globally by 2024, as we persistently innovate to unlock the boundless potential of mobile AI.”
