Tecno has launched its first flipping smartphone, the Phantom V Flip, to take on rivals from Samsung, OPPO, and Motorola (Moto is not available in Kenya). It features an external circular OLED screen with two cameras and an LED flash within the ring. On the inside, it has a big 6.9” foldable LTPO AMOLED display.
The Phantom V Flip is powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 8050 chipset with an octa-core CPU of up to 3.0 GHz. Storage-wise, it starts at 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM, with an option to expand by up to 8 GB using the Extended Memory feature. The 22:9 foldable screen refreshes at 120 Hz and can go up to 1,000 nits of brightness.
The external screen is a compact 1.32″ display that can show widgets, notifications, and doubles as a handy viewfinder for capturing selfies.
Speaking of cameras, there’s a 64 MP primary camera with a 1/1.73” sensor, an f/1.7 aperture lens, and PDAF. A 13 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter has also been included. The selfie camera is a 32 MP sensor.
Tecno didn’t skimp on battery life, packing in a 4,000 mAh two-cell battery. It supports 45W wired charging, with a claim that a mere 15 minutes will get you halfway to a full charge.
The Phantom V Flip is available in Black and Purple.
Pricing details have not been revealed for the Kenyan market, but that will be done as soon as the device launches here. For the moment, the Phantom V Fold is already here and goes for a little under KES 130,000, the same price that OPPO charges for its N Flip. Samsung’s Flip5 is pricier at almost KES 200k, so it is evident that this foldable segment is going to get very interesting in the coming days.
