Kenyans will now be able to pay for Nairobi’s expressway via their Airtel Money accounts, the telco said on Tuesday in a press statement.
With the deal in place, customers can now use Airtel Money to make Manual Toll Collection (MTC) payments or top up Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) accounts.
For MTC payments, users provide their Airtel-registered number at toll exits and confirm via a PIN push notification.
ETC users can top up by dialing *819# or via the Moja website.
Airtel Money transactions on the expressway will have zero transaction charges (excluding partner fees) until January 2025 to encourage adoption.
This move targets motorists previously reliant on cash payments and aligns with Moja Expressway’s vision of providing diverse, user-friendly toll payment methods.
Airtel Money aims to expand its utility while offering customers a great payment experience.
Commenting on the partnership, Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, Managing Director of Airtel Money Kenya, said, “In today’s environment, fostering strong partnerships and delivering clear value to our customers is the way forward. We are pleased to join hands with Moja Expressway Company to offer our customers a secure and convenient way to pay expressway toll fees. We remain committed to providing our customers with a seamless and convenient experience, and this partnership will help us achieve that goal.”
