Fahari Link, a service by Tatu Telecom, has been around for over a year. It aims to provide affordable, high-speed internet to underserved communities in Kiambu County.
As of September 2024, Tatu Telecom, Tatu City’s telecommunications arm, claimed it had connected over 1,000 customers to its fibre optic network and installed 85,000 meters of fibre optic cable infrastructure.
The network operates at 10Gbps, with the capacity to upgrade to 100Gbps, and is designed to support Tatu City’s rapid development, ensuring new occupants are connected within 24 hours of moving in.
Tatu Telecom has established an open-access network that enables multiple internet service providers (ISPs) to serve residents and businesses.
This has attracted a diverse customer base, including call centers, corporate offices, and educational institutions.
The company offers a 24-hour help desk to address technical issues and plans to introduce additional services, such as firewall as a service, to enhance cybersecurity.
Fahari Link extends Tatu Telecom’s reach beyond Tatu City and targets nearly one million people in areas like Ruiru, Oaklands, Murera, Ruturu, and Kamiti Corner.
It provides low-cost connections, daily internet plans, and public Wi-Fi. This initiative aligns with Tatu City’s broader infrastructure investments, which include over KES 40 billion spent on roads, power, and water systems.
Tatu City’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) offers business incentives, such as VAT zero-rating, import and stamp duty exemptions, and a reduced corporate tax rate of 10% for the first 10 years, increasing to 15% thereafter.
Over 80 businesses, including CCI Global, Heineken, and Dormans, are operational or under development in the area.
