Supermarket chain Carrefour, operated in Kenya by Majid Al Futtaim, has launched a 24/7 express grocery delivery service in Nairobi, Diani, and Nyali.
It is the first round-the-clock delivery option by a major retailer in Kenya, targeting customers who prefer shopping during off-peak hours, that is, between 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
The service gives access to over 15,000 products and covers key residential areas in the three towns. Orders are placed through the Carrefour app, with delivery promised within 60 to 90 minutes at no extra cost.
Majid Al Futtaim’s Regional Director for East Africa, Christophe Orcet, said the launch responds to growing demand for late-night deliveries as shopping habits shift.
Since launching its e-commerce platform in 2020, Carrefour has grown its delivery reach and customer base. The app has added new features like ‘Wishlist’, ‘Buy Again’, and a faster checkout flow, designed to make repeat purchases easier.
Last year, the app won the “Best Mobile Initiative Award” at the 2024 eCommerce Day East Africa event. The retailer says it plans to keep refining its digital offering as more Kenyans embrace online shopping.
Is 24/7 delivery a convenience people will use often, or is this mostly aimed at capturing a niche group of night shoppers?
