Drivetrains

Customers can choose from four different petrol engines and three diesel engines, all coupled to four possible transmissions. Its worth noting that the power can be sent to either the front wheels or all four wheels, thanks to Audi’s Quattro system.

The A6 features different drivetrains that differ based on the particular version and model year, impacting their power and torque capabilities. Importantly, a noteworthy milestone for the A6 occurred with the 2015 update, encompassing mechanical modifications, enhancements in safety and technology, and a refreshed appearance.

Understanding the range of variants is relatively straightforward, as the specific name often indicates the power plant and drivetrain fitted.

  • “FSI” represents naturally aspirated petrol engines,
  • “TFSI” indicates forced induction petrol engines,
  • “TDI” signifies Turbo Diesel engines, and
  • “Quattro” refers to four-wheel drive capabilities.

Also, the number in the name corresponds to the engine size.

Drawbacks….

However, amid its allure, the A6 shares a common woe with many luxury vehicles in its segment. Extensive and expensive build quality and reliability issues can mar the ownership experience, a fact hard to overlook considering the ongoing depreciation.

Issues range from the relatively minor, like a broken fuel filler cap release, often requiring a new actuator, to more bothersome concerns such as bonnet release failures and electronic glitches in the sunroof.

Electronics pose a significant area of concern, with reported problems in LED headlights, taillights, door lock actuators, parking assist sensors, headlight washers, number plate lights, electric mirror folding, mirror heating, and door sill lights. The air suspension, if neglected, might result in squeaks and rattles.

Thorough inspections and seeking the expertise of a qualified mechanic are strongly advised to identify and resolve any existing problems before committing to the purchase of a the Audi.
