Raxio secures $100 million IFC funding to expand data centre network across Africa

Raxio Group, a leading Sub-Saharan African data centre provider, has secured $100 million in financing from the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The funds will support Raxio’s goal of expanding high-quality colocation data centres to meet increasing demand across Africa.

Raxio plans to double its data centre deployments within three years, focusing on underserved markets in countries such as Ethiopia, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, and Angola. This expansion aims to address the growing need for digital infrastructure in key sectors like AI, cloud computing, and digital financial services, all essential for Africa’s economic development.

The company’s commitment to closing Africa’s digital divide includes offering Tier III-certified, carrier-neutral, secure data services to regions overlooked by other providers. The financing from IFC will help accelerate this process, with an emphasis on high-growth areas with substantial economic potential.

IFC’s backing follows previous investments from Proparco, the Emerging Africa Asia Infrastructure Fund (EAAIF), and equity stakeholders Roha Group and Meridiam. It includes concessional funding aimed at advancing gender equity and supporting economic growth in Africa’s poorest regions.

Raxio’s infrastructure, designed for 24/7 reliability, uses renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies to reduce environmental impact. With facilities in markets like the Democratic Republic of Congo and Côte d’Ivoire, the company is contributing to Africa’s digital integration by connecting local businesses to global markets.
