Tech corporation Epson has unveiled the S1A00210B, a new power management IC designed for hearing aids and other compact electronic devices. Sample reservations start in April 2025, with shipments beginning in August.
Power management ICs regulate power in electronic devices, including rechargeable battery control. Since 2016, Epson has been developing PMICs for hearing aids to address issues with primary (non-rechargeable) batteries, such as voltage drops, frequent replacements, and waterproofing challenges. Wireless charging technology has improved the usability of rechargeable hearing aids.
The S1A00210B features a compact coil that has reduced device size while improving efficiency. It can store two battery charging profiles and track charge cycles for optimized charging based on battery characteristics. These features reduce charging time and extend battery life.
The chip supports both wireless and contact charging, stores multiple battery charging profiles, and integrates power reception, charging, power supply, battery protection, and Flash ROM in a single unit. It is designed for hearing aids, sound amplifiers, and smart rings, offering a compact and efficient power management solution.
