Following up on its earlier statement on Monday, May 13, 2024, on the state of the country’s internet connectivity, Communications Authority of Kenya has released the following statement:
“We note and appreciate efforts made by mobile network operators and internet service providers to restore internet services and keep the country connected through the acquisition of additional capacity in other undersea fibre cables.”
A majority of Kenyans have been experiencing slow and lagging internet speeds for the past week, prompting widespread uproar. As such, many telecom companies, including Safaricom and Airtel, have had to find ways to address the disruption to help assure their customers of the reason why.
According to reports, the disruptions have been brought about by damage to the SEACOM subsea cable. Many industry players have implemented temporary measures tried to improve the internet bandwidth as they monitor the repair operations.
