Bolt lets customers add a trusted contact for emergencies

Bolt

Bolt has introduced Trusted Contacts, a feature that allows riders and drivers to add friends or family as emergency contacts.

If Bolt’s Safety Team cannot reach the account holder during a safety incident—such as a Ride Check alert, Emergency Assist request, or other critical issue—they will notify the designated contacts. This aims to speed up response times and improve safety.

The feature is part of Bolt’s KES 14 billion investment over three years to enhance safety on its platform. It joins existing tools like Ride Check (which monitors trips for irregularities), Share Location (for real-time tracking), and Emergency Assist (for discreetly contacting emergency services).

Dimmy Kanyankole, Bolt’s General Manager for Kenya and Tanzania, stated: “Trusted Contacts ensures we can escalate safety issues to a rider or driver’s loved ones if we can’t reach them directly. This is part of our broader commitment to safety through new features, products, and a dedicated in-house safety team.”
