You can now send money directly from your M-PESA wallet to an Airtel Money wallet without having to enter a withdrawal code. You can also load money onto your Airtel Money wallet directly from M-PESA.
Previously, when you sent money to an Airtel Money customer, they had to wait seven days to withdraw it at an M-PESA agent. This was inconvenient for the receiver and expensive for the sender, as they were charged more to send money outside their network.
Thanks to mobile money interoperability – which is also availbale for paybill and buy good services, you can now send money from your M-PESA wallet to an Airtel Money wallet in real time, without having to withdraw it from an agent.
While mobile money interoperability is a great achievement, many Kenyans have not yet experienced the full benefits of flexibility, convenience, and affordability. This has been thanks to the fact that M-PESA still leads the space, and rivals have been unable to actively compete with it.
To transfer money from M-PESA to your Airtel Money wallet, follow these steps:
- Dial *334# from your M-PESA registered phone.
- Select “Send Money” from the menu.
- Choose “Send to other Network.”
- Enter the Airtel mobile number (or other network user’s number).
- Enter the amount you want to send.
- Enter your M-PESA PIN to confirm the transaction.
- Review and confirm the details, then complete the transaction.
