Equitel launches 5G network in Kenya

  • Equitel, in collaboration with Airtel, has introduced Kenya’s 5G network, extending to over 370 locations, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Eldoret.
  • As a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), Equitel aims to provide faster, more reliable connectivity, enabling enhanced participation in the digital economy.

This rollout by Equitel responds to the growing demand for high internet speeds, aligning with Kenya’s technological advancements. The 5G network’s user base in Kenya has witnessed a 13.3% increase, reaching 509,737 users in the last three months, indicating a surge in demand for advanced connectivity. Safaricom and Airtel Kenya have also contributed to the 5G expansion, with Safaricom covering select municipalities in 35 counties, and Airtel Kenya planning to deploy additional 5G stations across the country by the end of 2023.

In its bid to attract users, Equitel plans to offer a 100% bonus on 5G data bundles every Wednesday and Friday. To access Equitel’s 5G services, customers need a 5G-capable device and a 4G-LTE SIM card. As Kenya embraces the era of 5G connectivity, Equitel emerges as a key player in providing advanced and widespread network services.
