Verto has opened a new hub in Nairobi as part of a bigger bet on East Africa’s cross-border payments market. The UK-based fintech, which enables businesses to send and receive money across 170 countries, is seeking to capture more trade flows from Kenya and its neighbours at a time when demand for faster, cheaper payments is rising.
The hub, located at The Address on Muthangari Drive, will anchor Verto’s regional operations and serve businesses in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The company said it will use Nairobi as a base to strengthen compliance, improve customer support and deepen partnerships with local financial institutions.
Verto, founded in 2018, offers multi-currency accounts and FX tools for international businesses. CEO and co-founder Ola Oyetayo said Nairobi was a “strategic gateway” given Kenya’s digital infrastructure and its role as a regional trade and technology hub.
The firm plans to hire across operations, compliance and customer engagement teams. Operations manager James Njoroge said Verto will invest in local talent and build capacity to handle the rising volume of payments from African businesses paying suppliers and contractors abroad.
The opening follows a period of growth for Verto in Africa, where companies are looking for alternatives to expensive bank transfers and slow settlement times.
