MTN Rwands, Mastercard introduce virtual cards to MoMo customers

Mobile Money Rwanda Limited (MoMo Rwanda) and Mastercard have introduced the Virtual Card by MoMo, a payment solution that allows MoMo users in Rwanda to make global e-commerce transactions.

The virtual card integrates with MoMo wallets for payments across platforms that accept MasterCard.

This launch is part of MTN Group’s partnership with Mastercard to expand digital payment access across 13 African countries.

The collaboration facilitates cross-border transactions and provides additional payment options for MoMo users by connecting them to Mastercard’s global network.

Mastercard’s collaboration with telecommunications companies supports integrating digital payment solutions into existing mobile money systems, simplifying global e-commerce payments for users.

This partnership brings I&M Bank on board to provide technical support, advancing financial inclusion and literacy in line with Rwanda’s cashless economy agenda.

The Virtual Card is linked directly to a consumer’s MTN MoMo account and is accessible on any mobile phone. As a result, MoMo customers can easily control their online payments by entering their PIN before confirming a purchase.
