Binance ties road safety to crypto security in Nairobi campaign

Binance has launched a safety campaign in Kenya that links road safety with crypto security, using boda boda riders as a starting point for a broader push to protect digital users.

The initiative, unveiled in Nairobi during Data Privacy Week, centres on a simple idea. Habits that keep people safe offline mirror the steps needed to stay safe online. Binance used that link to frame how it protects user funds and data on its platform.

At the launch event, the company distributed helmets and reflective gear to boda boda riders and ran practical sessions on helmet use and road awareness. Riders, safety groups, local officials, media and members of the crypto community attended.

Binance said the helmet drive reflects the safeguards it applies to user accounts. These include encryption, multi-factor authentication, withdrawal controls, and continuous monitoring of activity.

“Wearing a helmet is a simple way to protect yourself on the road. In the same way, our platform is built to help people take control of their financial future with confidence,” said Saruni Maina, Regional Operations Lead, Binance Africa.

Safety is a daily concern for many riders who work long hours in high-traffic conditions. Calvince Okumu, President of the Digital Boda Drivers and Deliveries Association of Kenya, said access to proper gear remains a challenge for some.

“A helmet can save your life, but many riders cannot afford proper gear. Today’s event shows our safety matters and reminds us that protecting ourselves online also counts,” he said.

Binance extended the message beyond the event through short videos, local social media content, influencer partnerships and community outreach focused on basic security habits.

The campaign continues online with post-event content and education drives aimed at first-time and existing crypto users, as Binance seeks to position user protection as central to how people engage with digital assets.
