Airtel Money Uganda and Juba Express have introduced a USSD-based cross-border payments service that lets customers send money to more than 100 countries without data or airtime. The move targets users with basic phones and aims to widen access to international transfers.
The service runs on 1851*4# and supports transfers to mobile wallets, bank accounts and cash-pickup points. Juba Express says it can keep costs and settlement times tighter because it uses its own infrastructure rather than third-party aggregators.
Airtel Money’s director said the partnership extends its reach beyond Uganda, while Juba Express said the product is built around simplicity and access for users in low-connectivity areas.
The rollout has started, backed by nationwide onboarding campaigns.
