Chpter, a Kenyan social commerce startup, has partnered with Flutterwave, a Nigerian fintech firm, to expand social commerce for merchants in 11 additional African markets.
Merchants in Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Egypt, Burkina Faso, Malawi, and Zambia can now accept local and international payments on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook using cards, mobile money, and bank transfers.
Chpter’s integration with Flutterwave provides secure, localized payment options and unified chat management for businesses.
Chpter also offers AI-powered sales and customer service tools, and a WhatsApp API suite for developers. A 15% discount is available for new merchants in these markets until the end of June 2025.

Speaking about the partnership, Tesh Mbaabu, Cofounder and President of Chpter announced that, “Besides Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria, where Chpter has been operational, merchants in Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Egypt, Burkina Faso, Malawi and Zambia can now sign up and accept both local and international payments on WhatsApp through us, with payment options such as cards (local and international), mobile money and bank transfers. This major feat has
been made possible because of this collaboration with Flutterwave.”
Mayokun Owolabi, VP, Global Expansion & Payment Partnerships – Africa, added, “Partnering with Chpter enables us to continue empowering merchants in Africa by equipping them with the right tools to connect and transact directly with customers on platforms they already trust, such as WhatsApp – the world’s most widely used messaging platform. Together, we’re making buying and selling faster, safer, and more
intuitive.”
Mark Kiarie, the CEO of Chpter added, “We have been onboarding dozens of new businesses every week and many of these businesses are coming from markets such as Senegal and Tanzania — despite us not having done any direct outreach there yet. This partnership reflects our excitement and commitment to meeting that growing demand. It means these businesses can now go live on Chpter and start accepting
payments directly via WhatsApp and Instagram, which drive up to 60% of their inbound traffic.”
