Kyosk, an online distribution platform that serves Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda, has expanded into the African fresh produce market with the launch of its Farm & Fresh line of business. This is after the company acquired KwikBasket from TechnoBrain for an undisclosed amount. The transaction will help Kyosk distribute produce to commercial kitchens, among other functions.
Kyosk’s Farm & Fresh line offers farmers access to better yields, consistent market access, fair pricing, information and insights, and agri-inputs. It also caters to the needs of restaurants, eateries, and other customers by providing a consistent supply of products.
Kyosk’s Farm & Fresh line is built upon the foundation of uLima (an internal product by Kyosk). This platform provided farmers with quality inputs, localized market information, and linkage. uLima, now named KFarm after a rebrand that will see it go beyond Kenyan borders, will offer improved yields by providing access to information, insights, and agri-inputs, such as fertilizers, and financing. It will also enable farmers to connect with consistent market access and fair pricing, ensuring sustainable income and business growth opportunities.
Kyosk’s expansion into the fresh produce market is a strategic move that will help to revolutionise the distribution and enjoyment of fresh produce in Africa. The company’s digital-first approach and data-led insights will help to improve efficiency and transparency in the supply chain, while its focus on serving small retail outlets and traditional retailers will help to ensure that fresh produce is more accessible to consumers across the continent.
