Huawei, Equity, and OUK launch ICT Academy to train 10,000 Kenyans in digital skills

Huawei Kenya, the Equity Group Foundation, and the Open University of Kenya have launched the Huawei ICT Academy at OUK, targeting over 10,000 learners with online courses in AI, Cloud, Cybersecurity, Software Development, and Networking.

The Academy will be based at Konza Technopolis, Kenya’s smart city, and supports the country’s Digital Superhighway under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). It will deliver dual certification: academic credentials from OUK and Huawei’s global industry certification. This model aims to raise job prospects for young Kenyans, especially in underserved areas.

“This partnership exemplifies our shared commitment to nurturing Kenya’s digital talent,” said Mr. Gavin Gao, CEO of Huawei Kenya. “By launching the Academy at OUK within Konza Technopolis, we’re aligning with the country’s vision for innovation, inclusion, and long-term prosperity.”

Students will also access a Virtual Innovation Hub to build real-world tech solutions for challenges in sectors like agriculture, health, education, and fintech. Equity Group Foundation will support the digital health angle, incorporating the Academy into its wider work on remote care and Telemedicine services.

The partnership blends technical training with social investment. It aims to create a scalable, inclusive approach to digital capacity-building, rooted in Kenya’s economic priorities and focused on outcomes that benefit both learners and local communities.
