What next after KCSE 2025? University entry points and KUCCPS application

Following the release of the 2025 KCSE results, your next major milestone is the university and college placement process. The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal is the only official gateway to government-sponsored higher education.

Here is a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the portal and secure your preferred course.

Phase 1: Preparation and requirements

Before logging in, ensure you have the following ready:

  • Your KCSE Index Number and the year (2025).

  • Your Birth Certificate Number or KCPE Index Number (this serves as your initial password).

  • A valid email address and phone number (for updates and verification).

  • A non-refundable fee of KES 1,500, payable via M-Pesa through the e-Citizen gateway.

Phase 2: Logging in

  1. Visit the official student portal: students.kuccps.net.

  2. Click the Login tab.

  3. Enter your KCSE Index Number, Year (2025), and use either your Birth Certificate Number or KCPE Index Number as your password.

Phase 3: Selecting your courses

Once logged in, your dashboard will display your Weighted Cluster Points for different categories (e.g., Medicine, Engineering, Humanities).

  • Browse Programmes: Use the “Programmes” tab to see all available degree, diploma, and certificate courses.

  • Check Eligibility: The portal automatically shows you which courses you qualify for based on your cluster points and specific subject grades.

  • Use the Course Basket: As you find courses you like, click “Add” to put them in your “Course Basket.” This acts like a shortlist so you can compare your favorites before the final submission.

Phase 4: Application submission

  1. Navigate to the Application/Revision tab.

  2. Enter the unique Programme Codes for your selected courses in order of preference. You can apply for up to 6 degree choices.

  3. Pay the Fee: Follow the e-Citizen payment prompts that appear. Note: Use the specific Account Number provided by the portal, not just the M-Pesa transaction code.

  4. Submit: Confirm your choices and submit. You will receive a notification that your application is successful.

Important Dates for the 2026 cycle

  • KMTC Applications: The portal is currently open for Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) programmes until January 27, 2026.

  • General University/TVET Placement: The first phase of applications for the September 2026 intake typically opens shortly after results are released. Keep a close eye on official KUCCPS social media channels.

  • Revision of Choices: If you are not placed in your first choice, there will be subsequent “Revision” windows to pick from remaining slots.

Pro-Tip: Do not wait until the last day to apply. The portal often experiences high traffic as the deadline approaches, which can lead to technical delays.
